WHAT TO EXPECT AT REFUGE?

What to Wear?

With many different kinds of churches available in this area, it is understandable that people may wonder, “How should I dress?” Or, “Is one service time more casual than another?” At Refuge you will see many styles of clothing. No one style is preferred over another. Whether it is dresses, jeans, business-casual attire, or even suits and ties, modesty is the attribute considered most desirable. Because we believe the house of God is the place where we come to honor Him, we encourage you to be comfortable and want you to be able to worship the King of Kings without distraction. We want all of the attention to be on Jesus Christ. Our desire is that you may experience the awesome presence of the Lord, which will give you a desire to return to Refuge again and again.

Where Do I Park?

Currently Refuge, only has street parking spaces. Parking is available anywhere along Avon Avenue or South 15th Street.

What is a refuge service like?

Our services combine music, prayer, teaching and preaching, which are all designed to bring glory to our God. We want everyone to feel comfortable joining in the praise and worship in whatever way suits you. Some people’s personality is more boisterous than others; some prefer to worship softly; but He deserves all our praise at every opportunity we have.

Our Worship

If you have never had the opportunity to be in a Spirit-filled service before, you will discover that Biblical expressions of worship are still practiced today. Join in with us as we praise God together in spirit and in truth.

We pray together aloud because in the Bible we read, “They lifted up their voice to God with one accord” (Acts 4:24).

We lift our hands in praise because in the Bible we read, “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord” (Psalm 134:2).

We sing with all our hearts because in the Bible we read, “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise”(Psalm 98:4).

We play musical instruments because in the Bible we read, “And all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments” (2 Samuel 6:5).

We clap and shout unto God because in the Bible we read, “O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph” (Psalm 47:1).

We dance before the LORD because in the Bible we read, “Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise Him with stringed instruments and organs” (Psalm150:4).

We testify publicly because in the Bible we read, “I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee” (Psalm 22:22).

We anoint with oil for divine healing because in the Bible we read, “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord” (James 5:14).

We allow the operation of the spiritual gifts because in the Bible we read, “When ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation” (1 Corinthians 14:26).

We seek to evangelize and equip people with the gospel of Jesus Christ, in spirit and truth, for the glory of God.

Refuge Apostolic Church exists to glorify God through authentic worship and the proclamation of His Word and seeks to provide a place for everyone to come to know and experience Jesus Christ for themselves in the power of the Holy Spirit.

We believe that God loves everyone and that everyone is therefore important, and so we’ve striven to create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and comfortable to worship God with us.

If you were to walk into one of our services and look around at the people present, you would probably be struck by the different kinds of people there. You would probably see someone like you! Our congregation is composed of people of various races, ethnic origins, nationalities, ages, and social backgrounds. We are different in many ways, but we are united as a community by a common experience of the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.

The diversity of people in our congregation is reflected in the diversity at Refuge. There is a place for everyone to be a part, but more importantly to be involved and to make a difference. We firmly believe that people are most happy and fulfilled when they have discovered God’s purpose for their lives and are actively pursuing it. Our Dream for the Future

Provide a place where the hurting can find hope. Where the lonely can find love. Where the broken can be restored. Where the fallen can be forgiven.
Provide a place where the whole Gospel is shared with the thousands of residents in Newark, NJ.
Provide a place for receiving 15,000 members into the fellowship of our church. Loving, Learning, Laughing, and Living in the unity of the Spirit.
Provide and develop fully devoted disciples through Bible Studies, Small Groups, Seminars, Retreats and through Unconditional Love.
Provide training to equip every believer for the work of ministry by assisting them in discovering their unique gift.
Provide a world Evangelism Center to train hundreds of short-term and long-term missionaries for the foreign fields and also to evangelize North America.
Provide $1 Million Dollars each year for world evangelism and church planting.
Provide and to plant one new church each year in New Jersey to evangelize for God.
Provide a beautiful yet simple facilities for at risk youth on at least 100 acres of land.
Provide a prayer wall open 24 hours a day for continuous prayer.
Provide state-of-the-art affordable housing complex for families, single mothers, the homeless, and the entire family to be self-sustaining by the community.
